For many business owners, setting up a website is the first step in building their brand and growing their company.
However, your website needs to change as your business grows.
There are many web tools that you can use to check your website. One of them is the Hubspot Website Grader.
Understanding what each section of the HubSpot Website Grader evaluates is essential before deciding to make any site changes based on these scores alone.
Understanding what the Hubspot Website Grader is.
The HubSpot Website Grader is a free tool that analyses your website and gives you a report on what it thinks are the most important things to improve. It does this by looking at metrics like:
- Performance
- Site speed
- Mobile
- Security
And according to the Hubspot community, the average website scores are 67%.
The HubSpot Website Grader score can help you:
- Identify areas for improvement
- Provides information on what needs to be done to improve performance
- Monitor the four critical metrics over time
Here’s a recent website we’ve been working on called The Live Well Diary.
We’ve typed the domain name in the website grader the scores are shown.
We scored 87 out of 100. We had perfect scores in both SEO and Security.
The Different Sections of the Hubspot Website Grader
Performance Score
The HubSpot Website Grader gives you a birds-eye view of your website’s performance by providing you with an instant score for each page on your site.
Performance is made up of the following categories.
- Page Size
- Page Requests
- Page Speed
- Browser Caching
- Minimal Page Redirect
- Image Size
- Minified Javascript
- Minified CSS
Website performance is important because if your site has slow loading times or does not load properly on mobile devices, these issues could negatively impact your rankings in search engine results pages (SERPs).
In the Live Well Diary example, the Performance grade is 27/30.
There is one aspect we need to improve on, which is the image sizes on the website.
The SEO Score:
In our example, we’ve scored 30 out of 30 on this.
Your SEO score is determined by how well your site is doing in search engines and how well it can rank in those same engines. It also considers whether or not you have a mobile-responsive site and how many keywords are on your page.
The HubSpot Website Grader can help you determine where to focus your efforts to improve the quality of your content, build links, and make sure everything is optimised for Google’s algorithms so that when users land on your website, they get the best possible experience from what they see there!
SEO grade is made up of the following categories:
- Permission to index
- Meta Description
- Content Plugins
- Descriptive Link Text
Mobile Score:
Your mobile-friendliness also impacts search rankings for all engines like Google and Bing.
It’s important to know that your mobile experience can impact your other business goals, including SEO, user experience and conversions.
Mobile-friendly sites convert better than non-mobile-friendly sites because they load faster and cause less strain on users’ devices. This translates into more sales or leads in general, not just from visitors looking at a specific product or service you offer on your site but also those who come across it while browsing other products and services online (which may lead them back to yours).
Mobile grade consists of the following categories:
- Legible Font Size
- Tap Targets
- Responsive
In our example, we scored 20/30 here. This is an area that needs some improvement. The Live Well Diary website will need tweaks to the mobile design and user experience.
We need to improve the Mobile version of the site, specifically the Tapping Targets.
Security Grade
The security of your website is now a significant consideration for website visitors and search engines. To keep your site secure, you need to have an SSL certificate and be free from vulnerabilities.
Mobile grade consists of the following categories:
- HTTPS
- Secure Javascript Libraries
In the example we showed, we had perfect scores in this area, 10/10.
